#Queen of katwe common sense media movie
Especially when the characters attend chess tournaments at fancy schools is when the movie really emphasizes that even if you're playing against a tough opponent you should never give up and you should show good sportsmanship no matter if you win the game or lose. Queen Of Katwe is very inspirational and will inspire you to learn chess or to become better at it. The educational value, positive messages, and positive role models are very high here, and this is not always so in several movies. I think adults would also highly enjoy this movie because it's just one of those movies like that. I am glad that Disney finally has gone and explored a place with more depth and targeted their movies towards my age and tweens and teens. The violence may seem excessive for a Disney movie, but sadly for some viewers this is not a normal Disney movie where the problem is easily solved and the ending is happily ever after. This movie is not extremely violent though which may make this more appropriate for young children, but it's still upsetting and there is one scene where Phiona's younger brother is badly hurt by a motorcycle and that is extremely intense because you do not know at certain times whether or not he may have died, which is the main reason I rated this movie for twelve and up. Parents should know that this movie shows people in an extremely poor state, which makes this movie sad but raises awareness about the conditions people today are living in. Some of the struggles the characters face are relatable, and sadly enough, are sometimes ignored. Phiona is a compelling protagonist to follow, so it makes it even better to know that this is a true story. Even though I went into this movie expecting it to be great, it came out even better than I thought. But at the end, she was actually talking about how good she thought it was. She had only ever played chess once, so I didn't expect her to have any intenrest in this film. I went up to my 7-year old sister and said, "This is the movie we're going to watch tonight." When she said, "I'll have to think about it" my thoughts were that is wasn't going to be a very fun movie night and that my sister would be bored and complaining. So one night at home when it was my turn to pick a movie, I chose Queen Of Katwe, because it had a topic I was interested in, and I had heard many good things about it. Thinking this, I knew I did not want to give up chess. It's much better than all of the board games we are playing today, like Monopoly and clue. I myself have just started playing chess, and even after my first game, I was saying, "I want to play more!" Chess is a great game of strategy and planning, one that will never lose its quality.
